Twas the month after
Swing Fling, in the earliest Fall, and
the poor tired-out dancers were
recovering, all.
The three had worked hard, Johnson -
Sofie - McGinnis. They'd done well,
made their mark. But, were they
finished?
The hardest part yet to come, a new
idea on the brink, they dashed off to
their pub - to feed it with drink!
They thought and they thought,
unwrapping their dream, and the idea
fed with Guinness became a Dance
Team!
"We need to add couples. We need to
add flare." They mused about options,
but to get dancers - where?
They went to the dance floors, they
went to halls, They attended parties,
dance "jams," and balls.
At last they found them at the first
place to look. (They had forgotten
about the after-dance "hook!")
At the Silver Diner - usual post-dance
heaven, more dancers were recruited -
and three became seven.
After many persuations o'er milkshakes
and pie, seven thought "What the heck!
Let's give it a try!"
Taking time out from lives, so full of
great things, the seven set to work
practicing Lindy Hop Swing.
First things being first, this group
seeking fame, they realized at once
that they needed a name!
"The Magnificent Seven" being already
taken, they conspired to find "a cool
name that's shakin."
Each suggesting a name that went
nowhere quite fast, the group finally
decided to look to the past.
When "The A Train" was mentioned, no
"boos" - no "yucks" , Instead all
agreed "We don't think it sucks!"
So all in accord, their shiny new name
quite finished, they exclaimed, "Let's
hop off to the pub for a Guinness!"
As we soon found out, most people who
dance have lives outside; jobs,
families, and romance.
Alas, torn between The A Train and
"more", three chose to leave. And now
they were four.
An open audition was the only thing to
do. How many would they take on? And
then, of course, who?
With the greatest of luck, five
dancers were found. The team, now
complete, was performance bound.
Through summer and spring, the team
flew, fell, and hopped; they twirled,
whipped, and tripped, and sometimes
they flopped!
Rehersal by rehearsal they molded
themeselves into tune, and at last
faced their goal: the 6th of June!
That first wondrous perfomance went
smoothly, so they tell, and The A Train
gained applause and a good reputation
as well.
So, if you should wish now to find
them, when they're not on the floor...
When they're not whirling and flopping,
and flipping some more...
When they're not regularly rehearsing
some new fangled score...
Take a second to look 'hind their
favorite pub's door!
D.C.'s favorite dance team!
